Bury Parish Church

Saint Mary the Virgin

Welcome

Welcome to the website of Bury Parish Church.

We hope you find your visit both enjoyable and informative.

The church is the only Grade I listed building in the town and is open to visitors throughout the week (please see 'visit the church' for further details).

Within the church, you will find 'The House on the Rock'; our Christian book and coffeeshop.

Announcement

David Scott-Thomas (Director of Music & Organist) will be leaving us at the end of July.   From September, he will be working full-time at Blackpool College (in place of his present three days a week), and that would make life impossibly hard, living as he does in Blackburn.   He goes with our thanks for this past twelve months, especially for exhilarating organ accompaniments, and for expanding our choral repertoire.   His successor will be Josh Stephens from Sheffield.

Please note that the Mothers' Union trip to Ryland's Library in Manchester, scheduled for Tuesday 3rd August 2010, has been cancelled.  This is due to ongoing disruption to the Metrolink service.

What's New on the Website

Please visit News & Updates for a 'pen picture' of Josh Stephens, who will succeed David Scott-Thomas as Director of Music; taking up post in September 2010 (photograph to follow).

The Rector's letter for August 2010 has now been posted to the website.

The Coffee/Bookshop page now has a brief update from The House on the Rock manager; Nigel Rushworth.

The Mothers' Union update for August 2010 and details of meetings/events for the remainder of 2010, is now available to view.

Forthcoming Events

Saturday 4th September 2010 - a performance of 'Joseph' will take place in church.  Please visit our concerts page for further information.

Saturday 18th September 2010 - Parish Pilgrimage.  We have decided that this year we shall travel to Liverpool for our day out.  Our choir will lead the service of Evensong, which will take place at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.  Coaches have now been booked and the cost per person will be £15.00, which includes coach hire, parking and a tip for the drivers.  If you would like to join us, please write or print your name on the sign-up sheet at the back of church.  To confirm your place, please put a cheque (payable to "Bury Parish Church") or cash, for each person being paid for in a sealed envelope and write on the envelope the name (s) of those the payment relates to.  Hand it to either Churchwarden or the Verger, Flo Leeming.  If more convenient, it may be handed to Nigel Rushworth, when the House on the Rock is open during the week.

Saturday 16th October 2010 at 7.30pm in church - The Fairey (Geneva) Brass Band will be performing.  Further details will appear on this website in due course.  Meanwhile, if you would like more information about the Band, please visit their website: www.faireyband.com
