Bury Parish Church is fortunate in its long tradition of offering a high standard of music. The combined Adult and Junior Choirs rehearse every Friday evening and assist the worship by singing at the weekly Sunday Family Communion Service and Evensong, as well as for other important liturgical services throughout the year, including Weddings and Funerals, and occasionally in concert. Members of the Junior Choir attend a Choir School on Friday evenings before the combined choirs’ rehearsal, a unique music education opportunity for them. Our Director of Music is Mr Marc Murray, and our Organist is Miss Elin Rees.
The Choir often tours to sing weekly residences at some of the UK's most renowned Cathedrals. It sang the services for a week at Worcester Cathedral in the summer of 2005 and sang at St George's Chapel, Windsor in 2006, Bristol Cathedral in 2008, Edinburgh Cathedral in 2011 and Canterbury Cathedral in 2013, Carlisle Cathedral in 2017, Gloucester Cathedral in 2018 and at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford in August 2022.
The dedication and commitment of all members is very much appreciated.
We are always happy to see new youngsters interested in joining the choir, and if you would like to read more, please download our Recruitment Leaflet where you can learn more about the life of the choir.
